FAQs GRANUM EXTRA
In this overview, we have compiled frequently asked questions about GRANUM EXTRA. It serves as a quick guide and answers the most important aspects of the properties, application and special features of this product.
What is special about GRANUM EXTRA?
Our new GRANUM EXTRA product line is based on a modern thin coating technology. The special coating was developed and tested by us over five years and produced in our pre-weathering facility. The coating is applied to both the front and back, has a thickness of approx. 8 μm and consists of a polyester-melamine resin compound. We will not communicate the composition or ingredients of the coating technology in our marketing and will always refer to it as a high-performance coating developed in-house.
Why do the surfaces have to be supplied with plastic film?
Because matt surfaces are always highly susceptible to scratches and fingerprints, the surfaces will only be available with a film finish. Gutters and downpipes will also have a protective film. We also obtain the protective film from a long-standing German partner.
What RAL colours do the two surfaces have?
GRANUM EXTRA basalte: approximates RAL 7021 black grey
GRANUM EXTRA granite: approximates RAL 0005000 steel grey
Can the new surfaces be soldered in the same way as the previous?
As GRANUM EXTRA is an extremely robust coating system, it cannot be soldered as usual with a soldering solvent (ZD-Pro or PowerSurface). The coating must first be removed with FELDER's EXTRA solvent. To do this, the solvent is applied with a brush and left to act briefly (approx. 15 seconds). The coating can then be optimally rubbed off with a Scotch-Brite pad. The process is of course necessary on the top and underside. Soldering can then be carried out in the usual way, e.g. with ZD-Pro.
Will there be a touch-up stick to conceal small scratches?
No touch-up pen solution will be available for the product launch. However, this is currently being developed with our coating development partner. We expect to be able to offer a solution that can be used to conceal scratches in the course of 2025.
How do the surfaces behave with bituminous washouts?
There are currently no binding test results available. The effectiveness is being tested as part of quality assurance. A result cannot yet be scheduled.
Does the coating of the new surfaces prevent zinc ion erosion?
There are currently no binding test results available. The effectiveness against zinc ion erosion is currently being tested as part of quality assurance. A result will be available in the first half of 2025.
Are the accessories in the DEW segment also film-coated?
Only the gutters and downpipes in the drainage range will be given a protective film.
Will the surfaces also be available with proROOFING rear coating?
No, the surfaces will not be available with the familiar proROOFING rear coating.
How should the surfaces be cleaned if they become dirty?
Please observe the RHEINZINK-cleaning recommendation.
How are the new surfaces stamped?
On the back with two stamp lines as follows:
RHEINZINK-GRANUM EXTRA granite Titanzink/Titanium zinc/Zinc titane EN 988 RHEINZINK® dates Made in Germany RHEINZINK-GRANUM EXTRA granite Rückseite/back side/verso [Coil no.] - [Thickness]
RHEINZINK-GRANUM EXTRA basalte Titanzink/Titanium zinc/Zinc titane EN 988 RHEINZINK® dates Made in Germany RHEINZINK-GRANUM EXTRA basalte Rückseite/back side/verso [Coil no.] - [Thickness]
Do we have an EPD for the new surfaces?
A life cycle assessment (LCA) is essential for the creation of an EPD for the GRANUM EXTRA product line. This can only be created after the start of series production by taking real measurements in the production process. An EPD can then be applied for from the Institut Bauen und Umwelt together with further information. We expect to receive an EPD for the product line in the course of 2025.
Is the surface film suitable for laser processing?
No, the protective film is not suitable for laser cutting.
How long can the film remain on the material once it has been ins
As with our other surfaces, we recommend removing the film after the components have been installed.
What guarantees do we offer?
We will maintain the same 30-year guarantee with the same guaranteed conditions as for GRANUM EXTRA.
Thicknesses other than are always a special request?
Thicknesses 1.20mm and 1.50mm are special thicknesses and have a minimum order quantity of 5t or 10t, depending on the dimension. For 500mm and 1000mm widths it is 5 tonnes, as there is no offcut that has to be melted down again. For all other widths it is 10 tonnes, as the offcut cannot be reused in further processing and has to be melted down again.
Are there statements on application in extreme climatic regions?
We test the corrosion resistance at an accredited institute. As there is no standardised test arrangement for testing the corrosion resistance of titanium zinc, we base our tests on DIN EN ISO 12944-6.
What statements can we make about fire protection?
With both surfaces we fulfil the fire protection class category A1.
Is there batch uniformity for the new surfaces?
The surfaces have very low tolerances in terms of colour values. Accordingly, batch uniformity can be assumed.
What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum order quantity for items in the price list other than the specified PU
What are the delivery times?
Delivery times can be requested from the internal sales department. They are based on the usual delivery times for our in-house manufactured products.
